Is this yoga training registered with the US Yoga Alliance?
In the past, it was possible for Schools to indicate that they were using another School’s syllabus (program and materials), and have automatic approval. Under that program, several schools used my Syllabus (and this program) to offer approved trainings. However, Yoga Alliance has discontinued this program, and now requires Schools to register their programs on their own so that they may personalize their submission, clearly indicate their understanding of their program content, and articulate their unique vision for their School.
Purchasing the program on its own is not a guarantee of of Yoga Alliance approval and each School must register itself. However, I have a good deal of experience in YA registration, and can provide support for your process in the form of coaching. You will be given access to my course, “How To Register | Uplevel for Yoga Alliance,” and you are also welcome to use your 5 complimentary coaching hours with me to help prepare your submission.

What’s the teaching methodology?
Every yoga teacher training should have a Teaching Methodology, that is, a system for teaching your trainees how to teach. It is important to use consistent language in your program to keep your students clear and on track.
This yoga teacher training uses Tadasana as a blueprint for every pose. This methodology provides a simple, yet powerful structure that helps students move beyond simply cueing the position of the pose (what it looks like), and begin to cue the more subtle and energizing actions that are essential to alignment.Rather than assert a “right” way to teach yoga, this training provides a series of practical tools that can be used in different ways to support creating an intentional class experience. We take a “what do you gain, what do you lose” viewpoint, which empowers the trainees to use their skills mindfully to create a class experience. This method also leaves a lot of room for you – as the trainer of your school – to imprint your unique style and preferences into the training. For example, rather than dictate, “always cue the breath!”, we instead look at both the benefits and challenges of cueing the breath in class. This permits room for students to craft a class with more breath instruction (flow or vinyasa style) or less/no breath calling (alignment-focused style), depending on the class experience they wish to create.
Can you help me create a training schedule?
As part of our consultation time, I can support you in creating a training schedule that will work for your School and your vision.
What can we use our five hours of coaching for?
The materials are very clear, and some Schools don’t use the coaching time with me at all! However, this time is available for you for any are in which you feel you need support, for example:
- Coaching to create your personalized training schedule,
- Coaching for navigating Yoga Alliance registration (or your registration organization of choice),
- Coaching in adapting the materials to reflect the mission/ vision of your school,
- Guidance in understanding concepts,
- Business or marketing strategizing,
- Coaching faculty (train the trainer)….
- Etc.
Can I adapt this yoga teacher training to be online?
Yes. The program is designed to be easily adapted if you want to deliver portions – or even all of it – online. The training notes are very detailed, and include adaptations for teaching via Zoom. I’m happy to brainstorm with you and discuss strategies for leveraging the material for pre-recorded, livestream, and in-person learning as part of our consulting time.
What’s in your student manual?
The student manual is over 600 pages of goodness. To get a deeper view of the manual (with sample pages, index, etc. ) you can check out my “Sneak Peek of the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training,” in which I take you behind the scenes of the training and give you a more in-depth look a the materials. Can you tell me about the sequencing style?
This course teaches students “peak pose sequencing,” which can be applied to hatha or vinyasa yoga styles. In peak pose sequencing, students are taught to:
- Choose a complex pose that will act as the pinnacle of the sequence
- Break down the peak pose into its component parts (what needs to be warmed up or educated in order to practice the pose effectively)
- Craft a sensible sequence to build logically to that peak pose.
While peak pose sequencing is not the only valuable sequencing style, it is incredibly useful to help students learn to differentiate between poses and understand principles of alignment. The asana practices in the training – though complete classes in their own right – focus on a particular family of poses in order to draw attention to the common best practices for this set of poses. These poses are then explored in the asana lab and in the practice in order to reinforce and integrate this understanding. The practices reinforce the sequencing style. Students will often deconstruct the sequence after each practice in order to understand how it was built.
What kinds of activities does the 200 hour teacher training include?
The training includes a wealth of learning activities, all designed to help your students become skilled, mindful teachers. The program includes asana labs, detailed asana practices, lectures, group activities, self-palpation, partner palpation, worksheets, practice teaching, journal reflections, and juicy group conversations, to name a few! There are a wide variety of learning techniques and styles to help support your students.
The training also includes visually rich presentations (Google Slides, which can be downloaded as PowerPoints) for anatomical and philosophy subjects that benefit from graphics and media.
What is the anatomy in the 200 hour program like?
I am passionate about anatomy! I love how studying anatomy can wake us up to the magic and wonder of being alive.
This 200 hour teacher training program is designed so that the anatomy is taught in small, digestible chunks, and related directly to the yoga practice. For example, when you are studying poses that could impact the knee (like pigeon), you are studying anatomy of the knee! The anatomy is simple, clear, straight-forward and relevant.
Every lesson is based on hundreds of hours of my experience teaching anatomy in teacher training. It includes my favorite activities and demonstrations, and is designed specifically to apply anatomy to yoga.
Also, the anatomy is designed to inspire an appreciation for functional – rather than aesthetic – yoga. We look at the implications of skeletal variation and proportions in the body, so that your students may develop a healthy respect for the individuality of the practice. Check out my Sneak Peek to get a free anatomy lesson plan that you can use.
“My students got an incredible anatomy training, delivered in a way that was easy to understand and applicable to teaching yoga, and I learned a whole lot more about anatomy by going through the material with them.”
– Natalie Rousseau, Living Yoga, Canada
Can you tell me about the philosophy in the program?
I am a big fan of scholastic research. The philosophical modules in this yoga teacher training program have been well-researched and I update them when new information emerges (for example, when new dates or understandings of historical context have emerged). For my own sources, I refer to Georg Feuerstein, Carlos Pomeda, and Hareesh (Christopher) Wallis.
This program focuses on the Yoga Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita as its philosophical texts. The students are encouraged to source and purchase their own favorite version of the text. The teacher is guided to contextualize the text in their historical framework, then group discussions help the students engage in a lively discussion to anchor and apply key philosophical concepts to their own lives.
Can I see the program materials?
Sure thing! I’ve set up a “sneak peek” of all the training materials so that you can see examples of the lesson plans, student manual, and visually rich presentations that you would have access to after purchasing this 200 hour yoga teacher training. Check it out here and dive in~ See the Sneak Peek.
Does it come with assessments (test and practicums)?
A yoga teacher training is only as good as its assessments. After all, if you can’t evaluate your students’ learning, how will you know if your training has worked? Clear, measurable and objective assessments are essential for your student’s success and the reputation of your training.
This training contains:
- Four guided practicums (practical skills demonstrations),
- Once sequencing assessment,
- Two quizzes, and
- One final exam.
These assessments will help you identify learning issues and evaluate your trainees. Each assessment can be customized for your training’s needs and contains a detailed answer key to guide your evaluations.
How long do I need to teach before I offer a teacher training?
There is no one right answer to this question, and it depends a lot on the individual teacher. I taught for four years before becoming an assistant teacher trainer, and then was an assistant for two years before developing my first teacher training. However, it’s not just about the time. It’s also important to consider what lights you up as a teacher and makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. No teaching career needs to look the same. Some people may know that leading trainings is absolutely their passion, while others may find more juice in offering retreats and workshops. If you are struggling to figure out your next step, I am more than happy to connect to chat, feel free to hit me up for a free virtual coffee chat.
What’s the Asana Section of the manual like?
The Asana Section of the student manual is 200+ pages of visually rich goodness. To help students understand the alignment of poses, poses are grouped into pose “families” that share common characteristics, sequencing strategies, benefits, and risks.
The pose families are:
- Meditation Poses (example: hero’s pose)
