Includes a student research project (an additional 3 non-contact hours, so 9.5 total hours of work) to help students apply their understanding of retreats to assess and budget potential venues properly. These robust presentations include a wealth of knowledge for retreat planning, including questionnaires, content planning, sample budgets, marketing tips, and bonus tips. This is an excellent lesson for a 300-hour teacher training looking to help students understand the business of yoga.

How To Plan and Lead a Retreat, Part 1

  • Students will describe the benefits of offering a retreat
  • Students will describe the difference retreat options: running solo, working for someone, and partnership opportunities,
  • Students will describe best practices in terms of due diligence with deadlines, contracts, and cancellation policies,
  • Students will describe how to create a basic retreat budget that they are running solo, accounting for typical retreat expenses as well as projected revenue,
  • Students will describe three ways in which they could effectively market their retreat for success,
  • Students will be able to describe a realistic view of the work, time, and attention necessary to run a retreat.

How To Plan and Lead a Retreat, Part 2

  • Students will create a weekly content and class plan for a typical retreat format,
  • Students will write an evocative 200-300 word description of their proposed retreat that includes descriptive adjectives and goals for the experience,
  • Students will describe five “extra love” strategies they can use to make running their retreat a success,
  • Students will create a basic retreat budget that they are running solo, accounting for typical retreat expenses as well as projected revenue,
  • Students will lead a presentation that outlines a proposal for working at selected retreat center, including their general infomation, budget, amenities, deadlines, and an assessment of retreat viability.
